Ultra-lightweight shirting goat suede Helmsman is lined with diamond-quilted, down-proof nylon and along with a curly lamb fleece collar, features beaucoup contrast colored stitching that defines the garments intriguing architecture. The front closure does double-duty, first, as a zip-front and second, as a series of burnished mahogany toggles that above and over the zipper slip into vegetable tanned lamb loops, themselves anchored in vegetable tanned lamb gussets. Similarly, the pouch pockets at the waist also serve two functions: for beneath the pouches, with their three-button, on-seam flaps and enough room for gloves and a scarf, are snug, warm side-entry hand pockets. Straps near the sleeve ends are fully functional, and vegetable tanned lamb trims the underside of the lapels.

On-seam flaps secure pouch pockets, roomy enough to store gloves and a scarf, while hidden beneath the pouches are snug, warm side entry hand pockets. Not to be outdone, anchored into vegetable tanned lamb gussets, burnished mahogany toggles slip into vegetable tanned lamb loops, themselves anchored into vegetable tanned lamb gussets, pulling and securing the storm placket over the zipper. Itself an intriguing design detail, the contrast colored stitching is one of the garment’s most prominent features.
As if assembled for inspection, the pouch pocket flap buttons, burnished mahogany toggle-and-loop closure, vegetable tanned gussets, and contrast colored stitchlines are an intriguing line-up. The buttons themselves are a distinct feature, reminiscent as they are of the hand-carved horn water buffalo horn buttons that Robert Comstock created for his RC Signature collection.
