A LIFETIME OF DEDICATION TO THE PEREGRINE FUND
In March 2016, our Coexistence Co-op team was able to tag this adult Rüppell’s Vulture at Olpejeta Conservancy. Dr. Darcy Ogada, Assistant Director of The Peregrine Fund’s Africa Programs, struggled with the size of this bird. He was so big that his nickname became Big Guy. We have been fortunate that the tracking unit on Big Guy has continued to transmit over the past four years, which is a record for our project. Big Guy has felt most at home up north, in Samburu, Marsabit, Laikipia and Isiolo counties. However, he made one trip to the Serengeti National Park in northwest Tanzania. You can never know with a vulture just how far they will fly and certainly, it takes a region to conserve these critically endangered birds! Your purchase helps to purchase transmitters so that we can study the movement of these large birds.
