A lifetime of dedication to the Peregrine Fund
“The long-crested eagle occurs in sub-Saharan Africa from Senegal and Gambia eastwards to Ethiopia and south to the Eastern Cape, in South Africa, northern Namibia and northern Botswana. It is generally regarded as sedentary, The Eagle Directory. but in arid areas may be nomadic depending on the rains.” - Wildscreen. Archived from the original on 2016-10-25. The Peregrine Fund studies raptors, including the Long-crested Eagle, in Kenya. Their work is helping biologists better understand how to conserve these majestic birds of prey.
In the 1970s, only a few years after The Peregrine Fund was formed, [they] began assisting and advising on conservation measures for the Philippine Eagle. [The Peregrine Fund’s] commitment to help protect this species continues to this day. The best way for The Peregrine Fund to do this is to provide support and assistance to the Philippine Eagle Foundation. This organization has produced Philippine Eagles through captive breeding and has reintroduced some individuals into remaining fragments of suitable habitat. The foundation released the first captive-bred eagle to the wild in 2004 and has since released several rehabilitated birds. Education in local communities and working with them to develop community-based conservation of critical habitat is also helping to protect this species.” - The Peregrine Fund (Photographer Munir Virani)
